There's a wide range of techniques used to join timber and panel products. Some types of joints have been around for centuries. Other joining methods are recent developments designed to speed up the production process or utilise new technologies.

The diagrams below show some common joint types used in kitchen and bathroom cabinetmaking. See if you can match each one up to its correct name by clicking on the diagram first and then the name of the joint.

As you work through them, think about where these joints are typically used. Note that some of them are used for joining carcase panels as well as timber pieces. Also think about any proprietary variations that you might have come across, using patented products or specialised equipment to produce the finished joint
