Introduction
We'll also look at some of the design considerations relating to the installation of appliances.
And we'll discuss the process of finishing off the job, carrying out a final inspection and handing it over to the client.
Your decision will be based on the requirements imposed by the Department of Fair Trading in your state or territory for the issue of a Contractor's licence in kitchen and bathroom installations. Most jurisdictions have now recognised the new specialist competency: LMFKB3006A Install fitted cabinets and components, which is supported by the on-line unit: Installing cabinets on-site.
However, some jurisdictions have not yet incorporated the new competency into their pre-requisites for a licence, and still require the completion of LMFFM3006B Install furnishing products (which is the basis of this on-line unit).
At the time this website was completed, the NSW Department of Fair Trading was still listing the 'furnishing' competency as the appropriate accreditation for obtaining a licence.
Working through this unit
Audio 4 (mp3 |6|KB)There are four sections in this unit:
- Fasteners and sealants
- Installing modular units
- Installing appliances
- Final presentation.
Each section contains an Overview, an Assignment, and Lessons which cover the content material. The links to these pages will appear in the side menu bar when you select the main link for that section.
Practical demonstration
Your final assessment of competency in this unit will include various practical demonstrations. Their purpose is to assess your ability to physically carry out the process of installing cabinets and components on-site. To help you get ready for these hands-on assessment activities, have a look at the Practical demonstration checklist by clicking on the link below:
Practical demonstration checklist
The checklist sets out the sorts of things your trainer will be looking for when you undertake the practical demonstrations. Make sure you talk to your trainer or supervisor about any of the details that you don't understand, or aren't ready to demonstrate, before the assessment event is organised. This will give you time to get the hang of the tasks you will need to perform, so that you'll feel more confident when the time comes to be assessed. When you are able to tick all of the YES boxes in the checklist you will be ready to carry out the practical demonstration component of this unit.
